Every auxiliary light ad screams the same number at you: lumens. Bigger is better. Ten thousand. Twenty thousand. Fifty thousand. But ask a rider who's actually ridden a mountain pass in fog, and they'll tell you brightness is only half the story. The other half is color.

But on the road, the color of your light matters as much as its brightness. White and yellow are not a good-vs-bad choice. They do different jobs. One helps you see the road. The other helps the road see you.

First, What Decides the Color of Light?
