The RiderNav R7M supports over-the-air (OTA) firmware updates to ensure optimal performance and access to the latest features.
Please note: The R7M has a USB-C port on the back, but it is for factory technician use only. We strongly advise against removing the screws to access it, as this may compromise water resistance and cause internal damage—which is not covered under warranty. For OTA updates, the R7M must be mounted on your BMW Nav Prep with the ignition on and connected to Wi-Fi.
OTA Firmware Update Available
Stay up to date with the latest features and performance improvements. You can find the latest firmware version and step-by-step update instructions by visiting our OTA Firmware Updates page.

Prerequisites for OTA Updates
Before updating, ensure the following:
- R7M is mounted on the BMW Nav Prep
- Motorcycle ignition is ON
- Stable Wi-Fi connection (mobile hotspot is acceptable)
- We recommend purchasing an 8GB SD card separately, as it is not pre-installed in R7M units.
How to Update
-
Check for Updates
Go to Settings > System Update and tap Check for Updates. The system will automatically detect if a new version is available.
-
Download Update
If a new version is found, tap Update Now to begin downloading.
-
Installation
Once the download is complete, the R7M will automatically install and restart. Do not power off the device during this process.
-
Completion
After installation, the system will display a success message. If the system shows "Already up to date," no further action is needed.
Important Notes
-
SD Card Required: An 8GB SD card must be inserted for OTA updates (not pre-installed; please purchase separately).
-
Power Stability: Keep the motorcycle running throughout the update to prevent interruption.
-
Update Failure: If an update fails due to power loss or SD card issues, please contact customer support for assistance.

@Nikos and @Franj – I just updated mine using a 64GB MicroSD card and it worked fine.
@Pieter – Mine’s working. Galaxy S22 in the US, FWIW.
@RiderNav – Updated successfully to 1.5 :)
I’m unable to connect my phone via Android Auto after a successful update done 11/04/2026 on my R7M. Before update, phone was connecting fine… Can you please assist?
Ich habe eine 16 GB-Karte eingelegt, die funktioniert.
Kann auch eine größere als die 8 GB SD-Card verwendet werden ? Zum Beispiel ein 32 GB. Gruß Frank
